Jay Durfey
BIOGRAPHY
"Jay Durfey seeks to convey a feeling of intimacy through intricacy. Exploring the creative freedom of composing and recording with his guitars and a vast array of virtual instruments, Jay strives to strike a balance between organic and electronic musical elements. The result in this is an eclectic mix of guitar- infused electronica which evokes vast and verdant soundscapes of the imagination. From the brightly illuminated to the dark and brooding, from the lightly ethereal to the bold and intense, each sound, each melody and ambient effect is united to create a panorama of sounds in seasons, of flowing waters and aquatic life, and of the ever-present contrast between the dynamics of nature and those of the world of technology. The music is powerful, thought provoking, and ultimately comforting as it brings these diverse elements together into a deep and enriching listening experience."

The Score(2008)
Having been a part of the RPM Challenge in '07 and learning alot about myself in the process, it just seemed natural to jump in and do it again. This year's challenge for me was about trying to identify where inspiration comes from for me, harness it and then revisit it again if possible. Being such an avid lover of film, I took to watching some great selections over the course of February and then hitting record in the studio directly after, using the feel of where the movie left me as my Muse to guide the way. I wasn't concentrating on the scores of the movies I watched, but more the way the viewing affected me overall. I hope you enjoy listening to my experiment as much as I did making it.
This album was written, recorded and produced all within the month of February as an entry at www.rpmchallenge.com.
All of the music contained within this CD (with the exception of a few drum loops) was performed on an electric guitar using a midi interface.
All music written, performed and produced by Jay Durfey. Except for track #15 "Zax Axe Attax", performed by Zack Durfey in his recording debut at Starview Studios.

Recorded at Starview Studios, Guelph, Ontario, Canada
Pitching Tense(2009)
A whole album based around the tense and creepy moments in horror and suspense movies. 90% of what you hear was all done on the guitar using a midi pickup routed through vstis. This album also marks the second appearance and recording of my 12 year old son Zack on "They All Float Down Here".
